NOTES FROM THE SHOW CREATOR
The fruit world came about from one single TikTok reel. It was March 2025, and I had just started posting trans educational content online. As anyone who’s tried to be visibly trans online knows, the transphobes are loud. I wanted to communicate how silly it felt to be receiving so many hate comments telling me I didn’t exist. So I made a video where a banana told a strawberry there were only two kinds of fruits, apples and bananas. And of course, the strawberry was unphased.
After I made that video, I kept having more and more ideas of how to explore this allegory. Banana went from a token bigot to a complex character with redeeming qualities. Banana Man became a webseries, and the fruit world expanded.
But I don’t want this world to stay confined by the constraints of short-form content and algorithms. Banana wants to go out into the fruit world and make friends irl! And so here we are. I hope this is just the beginning of Banana’s live adventures.
