A Note from the Writer

Welcome to Feathered: The Musical, a reimagining of the myth of Icarus—a story not just of flight and folly, but of love, loss, and the desperate hope to rise beyond what confines us.

It is an answer to these three questions: What happens when one flies too low? Can reckless, foolish love overcome fate?  And, how can this love hurt us?

While the heart of the original myth remains, Feathered is ultimately an adaptation—one that asks not what happens when we fly too high, but what happens when we fly too low. In this retelling, Daedalus is no longer the noble inventor, but a grieving, oppressive father—trapped in the tower by his own hubris and haunted by the death of his wife, Naiara, who perished trying to escape.

Yet, despite his father’s despair, Icarus remains hopeful. With the help of Apollo, he builds his own wings—not out of defiance, but out of longing to reach the sun just beyond his grasp. Apollo, too, is faced with a choice: intervene and risk divine punishment, or abandon Icarus in fear. Either path is a leap into the unknown.

Guiding this world are the Aurae, the nymphs of the wind—carriers of fate and memory. Among them is Naiara herself, watching over her son, her husband, and the god who may yet change the course of their story. The Aurae remind us: to live is to risk, to hope is to defy inevitability, and to love is to let go.

Feathered is a story about the cost of freedom—and the beauty of daring to fly, even if only for a moment. In the end, it is a reminder of this: it is not the fall that defines us, but the courage it takes to fly

The winds are shifting. The choice is yours.

The only way to know?

Follow the wind.

A Note from the Director

Dear Seekers of the Sun,

Directing and costume designing Feathered has been an unforgettable experience. As someone who has been involved in countless productions at Clark Youth Theatre, stepping into the role of director and designer for this original musical felt both exciting and a bit nerve-wracking. There's something uniquely special about working on an original show, where you get to help shape its world and characters from the very beginning. I am so thankful that Judah Brown wrote and composed this original musical and it has been a pleasure collaborating and shaping this play through his vision.

As a director, I loved directing this talented cast and watching them bring their characters to life. The process of discovering the show together, refining scenes, and building the energy of the performance was both challenging and rewarding. The teamwork and creativity involved made me grow not only as a leader but also as a communicator.

Costume design is always my favorite. It's always been my passion to create designs that help tell a story, and with Feathered, I had the chance to bring characters to life through their costumes. Balancing creative vision with practicality was a fulfilling challenge, and seeing everything come together on stage was incredibly rewarding.

This experience has been a huge step in my journey toward a career in Theatrical Design and Production, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity.

Like Icarus, with the sun in his eyes, I forge ahead with daring steps and bold dreams...

Break A Leg to the cast!

Enjoy the show,

Lila Mullins
