Disney's Beauty and the Beast - February 29 - March 02, 2024

Masterman

 Director's Note

It takes a lot to choose the perfect Masterman musical each year. Besides our yearly criteria - a large ensemble, full orchestra, and (somewhat) family friendly content, we also want to show off the talent we have in the school and we want the students to enjoy it!

I was hesitant to say yes to Beauty and the Beast - even though it fit all of our criteria perfectly, it felt too soon for me. I played Lefou my sophomore year on this very same stage, and even though that was 16 years ago it feels like almost yesterday. In the end, the plethora of featured parts and the amount of wonderfully talented students we have this year won me over. I am so happy it did.

Beauty and the Beast has given us the opportunity to feature so many talented students - besides our amazing leads, numbers like Belle and Be Our Guest give us the opportunity to share the spotlight with more students (both high school and middle school) than in any recent year. That more than anything is what the musical is about. Using the talents of as many of our wonderful students as possible to put on an incredible show.

I also have no problem admitting that this production is so much better than the one 16 years ago. Kimmy Faughey’s choreography brings a level of creativity to this show rarely seen in high school theater. Kim Neu and David Shapiro’s tireless work has prepared the music perfectly, and the stage crew’s beautiful designs of the set are bringing the story fully to life. And of course I don’t have to mention the talent level of our students again, as you’ll see it on the stage.

Directing this show has been such a rewarding and enjoyable experience, and I hope you enjoy this incredible show. And now… we invite you to relax, pull up a chair as Masterman proudly presents, Beauty and the Beast.
