Director’s Note
Welcome to Shrek: The Musical! The students you are about to see on and behind the stage have been working tirelessly for the past few months to bring you the great performance in front of you. This is my first year as a teacher and as a director, and even after directing Clue in the fall, I am amazed by these students.
Shrek, at its core, is about being true to yourself. Watching the cast and crew bring this message to life has been beautiful. High school is a time where identity and values can be big question marks in student minds, yet these students have effortlessly shown the maturity, vulnerability, and a touch of silliness needed for this show. Together, this team has created wonderful set pieces, played with intricate makeup and costumes, and tackled complex harmonies, and I’m so proud of it all.
I would like to thank Wendy Hoyle and John Klak for their guidance, Mitchell Augenstein and Emma Longoria for their collaboration, and all of you supporters for encouraging these actors and crew members to give it their all! Enjoy the show!
