Welcome to our production of Pippin! This timeless musical, with its dazzling theatricality and unforgettable score by Stephen Schwartz, invites us to follow one young man’s search for meaning, fulfillment, and an extraordinary life.
At its heart, Pippin is a story that resonates with all of us—especially young people standing on the edge of their futures. It asks questions we’ve all considered: What does it mean to be extraordinary? Where do we find happiness? And is the journey more important than the destination? In a world that often pushes us toward perfection, Pippin reminds us that sometimes the most meaningful moments are found in the simplest places.
One of my favorite moments in the show comes in the song "No Time at All," when Berthe sings:
"Watching your flings be flung all over,
Makes me feel young all over,
In just no time at all!"
This lyric perfectly captures the spirit of Pippin—the joy of embracing life as it comes, taking risks, and finding magic in the unexpected. It’s a sentiment I hope our students carry with them long after the final bow.
This production is especially unique because it has been a true collaboration, with student choreographers playing an essential role in bringing the show to life. Their creativity, leadership, and dedication have shaped the movement and storytelling in ways that are both dynamic and deeply personal. In addition to creating original choreography, our students also had the incredible opportunity to learn some of the iconic dance sequences of Bob Fosse, whose distinctive style is woven into the DNA of Pippin. Honoring his legacy while making the movement their own has been a thrilling challenge, and I’m so proud of their hard work in embracing both the past and the present of this show.
I would also like to take a moment to recognize someone who has dedicated 40 years to the North Branford High School Drama Club—my mom and co-drama club advisor. Her passion, guidance, and unwavering support have shaped generations of student performers, inspiring them to embrace theater as a place of creativity, growth, and community. This program would not be what it is today without her, and I am endlessly grateful for the impact she has had on so many lives—including mine.
Our cast and crew have poured their hearts into this production, bringing boundless energy, creativity, and dedication to the stage. They have embraced the humor, heart, and spectacle of Pippin, making it their own. I am incredibly proud of their hard work and growth throughout this process.
Thank you for joining us on this magical journey. Whether you’re experiencing Pippin for the first time or revisiting an old favorite, I hope you leave the theater reflecting on your own path—and the beauty of the unexpected moments along the way.
Enjoy the show!
