Welcome to North Royalton High School Theatre’s production of Chicago: Teen Edition!
First brought to life by John Kander, Fred Ebb, and shaped by the iconic style of Bob Fosse, Chicago has remained a theatrical favorite for decades thanks to its unforgettable music, bold choreography, and sharp wit.
Set in the 1920s, Chicago explores ambition, fame, and the power of storytelling. While the world has changed since then, audiences still connect with its humor and its larger-than-life characters. At its core, this show reminds us how easily truth can be twisted, how charisma can capture attention, and how the spotlight can transform ordinary people into celebrities.
For our students, this production has been both an exciting challenge and an incredible opportunity. Chicago demands precision, focus, and strong ensemble work. From the first rehearsal to opening night, we have worked to master complex choreography, tight harmonies, and the stylized performance that makes this show so distinctive. Watching them grow in confidence, commitment, and maturity has been a joy.
But this production is about more than satire and spectacle. It asks young people to wrestle with big ideas: accountability, ambition, integrity, identity, and voice. Who gets heard or believed? What does it mean to take responsibility? These are not just questions for a 1920s courtroom, they echo in our everyday lives. Theatre gives students the space to explore these themes in a safe and creative environment, stepping into someone else’s shoes and returning with deeper empathy. This production is the result of true collaboration among performers, crew, pit musicians, and supporters.
In a time when our society can feel divided and performative, this ensemble has modeled something different: unity, accountability, authentic connection, and the understanding that the spotlight shines brightest when it is shared.
To our cast, pit, and crew: you have taken a nearly century-old story and infused it with your own energy, intelligence, and heart. That is the true magic of theatre. It lives and breathes through the people performing it right now.
We are grateful to our school and community for continuing to champion the arts. Theatre provides a space for creativity, discipline, and expression and tonight’s performance is a celebration of that support. As you watch tonight, enjoy the razzle-dazzle. Laugh. Tap your toes. But also listen closely. Beneath the sequins is a question that still echoes in our society: are we chasing fame, or are we seeking truth?
These students have poured their talent and heart into every number, and we are proud to share their work with you. Thank you for being here and for supporting the magic of live theatre.
