The Lion King has been one of our favorite shows to see on the Broadway stage and has thrilled audiences all over the world. We are honored to bring this piece of magic to you here today. As we share this story, we also share a message that is hidden within.
Simba is the son of a king. Along his journey, he loses sight of the full depth and meaning of his lineage and finds himself wandering off of his given path into places that help him forget his pain…for a while. In time, he feels the uneasiness that something is not right - that he is not where he truly belongs. Only after he comes to realize through the wisdom of Rafiki (someone who knew his father well), is he able to fulfill the purpose unto which he was born. As Simba comes to understand that his father lives inside of him, he takes his rightful place in the circle of life. He is like the prodigal son who left his home in search of something better.
As we sit here today, preparing to watch this fascinating tale come to life, we must all realize that we are Simba! We are children of the King of Kings…the everlasting Father! Our royal birthright is eternity in heaven with our Father, if we stay on the path that he has prescribed for us. For some, it is to teach, or share the Gospel message through preaching. For some it is to uplift or encourage through our daily living and walk with others, while others it is to help those in need. All of us are called to use our God-given gifts to glorify our Father. But our gifts are useless if we don’t also acknowledge that He gave them to us and that He lives in us.
In Malachi 3:3, God is compared to a silversmith refining silver. Did you know that a silversmith has to be very careful when purifying silver? If he goes too long, he can ruin the silver, but if he doesn’t go long enough, it isn’t purified. When asked how you know when the silver is purified, the silversmith simply said, “When I can see my reflection in it.” Simba needed to see his reflection in order to realize that his father lives in him. The same can be said for us in our walk with Christ. When others look at us, do they just see us or do we reflect Jesus?
When others look at us, they should see Him through our love and our actions. If we can achieve this one true goal, we will have taken our place in the great circle of life.
Please enjoy the show, live the message, and “Remember Who You Are!"
