In Memoriam for David Siktberg
David Siktberg, who has been involved with Opera51 as a singer, officer, and producer, passed away from prostate cancer in January. His devotion and enthusiasm for the operas was remarkable. His employment after graduation from Harvard College was in the software industry and as a consultant specializing in marketing, management and information technology, but music and music performance were central to his life. He sang in the Tanglewood Festival Chorus before he joined a group at 51 Walden performing Gilbert and Sullivan operettas as fundraisers for the operation of 51 Walden. As the group moved on and styled itself as Opera51, performing traditional opera favorites, David took an active role in staging. He designed and installed projected English surtitles so that audiences could follow the plots, which were usually sung in a foreign language. He oversaw lighting and sound tech as well. He will be sorely missed. Opera51 is dedicating the performances of Falstaff to David.
