On behalf of Players Guild at Sugar Hill, welcome to Season 13: “The Ties that Bind, The Stories that Matter.” We know that there are many entertainment choices out there, so we are honored that you have chosen to spend your time with us!
We have some exciting and heartfelt family stories to share with you. We open our season with the classic On Golden Pond. Did you know that it was a play before it was made into a major motion picture in 1981? It is a story that reflects the power of forgiveness and the joy of reconciliation. I hope that you have your hankies ready. In November, we look forward to kicking off the holidays with Miracle on 34th Street. It is a show that asks the age-old question, “Do you believe?” I know that I do! This well-known story reflects the love of a mother and daughter and their struggle to accept the magic of Christmas. In February, we will introduce you to the March Family as we bring to life the beloved play Little Women. Josephine walks us through her life as a March sister. We get to see what it was like growing up in her family, the highs and the lows. (Still got that hanky?) We will close our season with Once Upon a Mattress, a musical based upon the story The Princess and The Pea. This is a fun adaptation for all ages! The show opened on Broadway in 1959 with Carol Burnette playing Princess Winnifred. In 2024, the show was reopened on Broadway with Sutton Foster in the same role. This story tells the tale of an overbearing queen and her quest to keep her son single and all to herself. Meanwhile, no one else in the kingdom can get married until the prince finds a proper wife. Enter Princess Winnifred. You can expect mischief and mayhem with plenty of laughs all surrounded with a delightful toe-tapping score.
