It brings me great joy to be a part of the Wabasha community. This production has been an amazing experience, bringing together people of all ages and abilities from across South East Minnesota to create a large-scale musical. Bikini Bottom features creative talents aged 8 to 80 and beyond! Families and individuals of all abilities have come together for this show, creating meaningful bonds and friendships that will last a lifetime.
I am excited to see so many Wabasha-Kellogg alumni returning to the stage, contributing behind the scenes, and joining the crew, as well as so many people from neighboring communities. The degree of talent, support, and effort from everyone involved truly reflects the best parts of our community. I would like to extend my gratitude to Paul Cushman, the RJAC board, and members for funding and promoting this production, as well as to the many sponsors who invested in the show.
While The SpongeBob SquarePants television series was created 27 years ago, this musical stands on its own. It not only celebrates these beloved characters but also presents a valuable message: everyone has a purpose, and together, we are stronger. Who would have thought that this silly, absurd, and sometimes annoying little show would become a musical with such heart and meaning?
Some of the key messages in this musical are finding your true self, friendship, standing together, and facing adversity. Bikini Bottom is a microcosm of the real world, with all types of people trying to figure it out. Like any community, it experiences disagreements, uncertainty, and challenges. Yet, in difficult times, we are reminded that no one can do it alone. We each have our own talents and strengths. We, in fact, are not just a ‘simple sponge’; we can all contribute to overcoming the challenges our communities face. Working together helps solve community problems.
Thank you to the cast, musicians, crew, and our many volunteers who devoted their time this summer to create another amazing and colorful production. I also feel incredibly fortunate to work with such an amazing production team, cast, and support crew. A show of this magnitude requires a "humongous" effort, and I could not do it without the support, talent, and dedication of every individual who helped make it possible. Indeed, we have all "Chopped to the Top!" Thank you for being such wonderful "BFFs!" Lastly, thank you to my friends and family for always supporting my ‘theater habits.’
I would like to dedicate this show to our community because it is small towns like Wabasha that make the world a better place. When the going gets tough, we just don't get going... we come together. We find ways to help and support one another, and to remind each other that no one has to face life's challenges alone. That is the spirit of this community, and I hope it is the message you take with you after today's performance.
Whether you are an avid SpongeBob fan or came to support one of our talented performers, I am confident that you will leave feeling that it was the Best Day Ever!
