For year five of the summer musical in the park, we wanted to send a thank you to San Marcos for the love and support we've recieved. We wanted the show to be a love letter to our city. Choosing Disney's The Little Mermaid was an obvious choice for the mermaid capital of the world!
Disney's The Little Mermaid has always been one of my favorite Disney stories. At its core you have two young people who know what they believe, know what they want, stand by it and chase after it. In a world that can limit our dreams and dismiss our passion, Ariel and Eric each stand firm even when everyone around them can’t see the vision. On top of this, the music in the show is so beautifully written and there are so many opportunities to feature so many performers and technicians.
I have been so lucky to be involved in the past five BTTC summer musicals. From music directing our very first summer show, The Wizard of Oz, to directing and choreographing the following shows, it has been a gift to see this company grow while growing as an artist myself. Thank you to every person who has contributed their support, talent, time, effort and anything to this beautiful community theatre I get to call home.
If you love what you see tonight, come again! Bring friends! Let’s keep this new San Marcos tradition alive and show everyone the importance of real, personal, human-made art.
