Director's Note

It is an honor and privilege to have been selected to direct this year's All-School Musical production of The Addams Family. Being an alumnus of LaGuardia, and having performed in two LaGuardia musicals, makes this a full-circle moment. When The Addams Family was announced last year, I was enthusiastic about the opportunity to be a part of telling this story with, and for LaGuardia's diverse and talented community.

When people think of the musical The Addams Family, they immediately associate the show with a family of strange and funny characters who live in a haunted mansion and behave in an "unusual" way. What some forget is that these characters are based on Charles Addams series of comic panels for The New Yorker. His comics ultimately laid the foundation for The Addams Family television series in the 1960's. There have been many incarnations of this story, but at the heart of our production are themes of family, celebrating our individuality, and fighting for what we believe in.

Our school community is made up of brilliant artists who create each day despite their adversities. I see so many parallels between our student body and The Addams Family characters. Our students have strong points of view in all that they do, and they aren't afraid to step out of the box just like the characters that you will see on stage today. As you watch our production, I want you to feel as if you are being transported into Charles Addams original comic panels for The New Yorker. I would like you to envision the concert hall proscenium as our comic panel where our story comes to life.

Thank you for taking the time to come support our students and see our production. I would like to thank Principal Marwah, Eli Schreiner, Jeannie Cascio, Kim Senisi and our amazing creative team for their support and guidance throughout this process. I hope you enjoy the show (snap snap).
