Once Upon a Mattress - April 16 - April 17, 2026

 End Notes

Note from the Director

These two nights are truly one of the biggest highlights of my year. But in many ways, these performances are not really what it’s all about.

The joy of theater is not only in the presentation of a show, although that is amazing, fun, and rewarding on many levels for everyone involved. The real joy is found in the process: the late nights, the moments of frustration, the times we fall over laughing at mistakes or unexpected moments that become memories we’ll tell for years.

It is a gift to create. When we create, we reflect our Creator, making something beautiful and joyful for others to experience. I see God’s work in the hands and feet of the students and staff I have the privilege of working beside. They truly represent some of the very best in our school.

I am often overwhelmed, almost to tears, when I think about what a gift this program, these students, and these people are to me, to our school community, and to the families and friends who support and love them so deeply.

Tonight, as you watch our show, we hope you are transported to another place. For a couple of hours, we hope you can simply enjoy the wonderful gift of laughter. Humor is a blessing, and it reminds us that joy can be found even in the most unexpected places.

The theme of tonight’s show may not be obvious to everyone at first, but we hope you see that beauty can appear in surprising ways, and that innocence, fun, and even a little awkwardness are part of every stage of life.

I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to be part of this program and for the incredible support behind our Fine Arts productions each year. I could never fully recount all the wonderful people and exceptional students I have had the privilege to work with. I am especially thankful for the past and present students who continue to return, filling these seats to cheer on those who follow them on stage.

That is the gift of theater; it creates a family.

And we hope you find your home here.
