Reading Senior High School

NOTES FROM THE DIRECTOR

Welcome to Reading High School and our performance of THE WEDDING SINGER! We are excited to perform for you today. Please join us as we take you on this feel-good romp that recreates 1985 onstage. Over the past three months, we have worked hard to create a fun and compelling production. I am delighted by the creativity and hard work that have gone into making this musical, and we hope you enjoy the show.

This musical made its splash on Broadway 20 years ago and is set 20 years before that. We've had a good time exploring what life was like 40 years ago and comparing it with today. This story shows us that the one thing that has stayed the same is that if you stay true to yourself, love will find you.

Like a bride at a wedding, I'm sure we've included something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue — many times over. All we need now is you, our audience. We have prepared this performance with a whole lot of love, plenty of dancing, and a big scoop of nostalgia. We are thrilled to share it with you.

Special recognition goes out to my team of adults who make this show happen. Theatre is a deeply handcrafted art, and we have spent many long hours at this school creating performances, building materials and things, and shaping lives. You are like the mirror ball hanging above our heads, reflecting bright light and energy to all people with whom you come in contact. I admire your dedication.

Finally, a truly successful production involves more than what is presented on stage. We would not have reached this point without the cooperation, respect, commitment, and teamwork of our students, their parents, our faculty, staff, administrators, the RSD central administration, and the Reading community. It amazes me that, despite everything happening around us, we are still able to put on a production like this. And it thrills me even more that you are here in the audience tonight. I hope you enjoy our show and continue to support live theatre and the arts in our schools.

Sincerely,

Joseph S. Smith
