 A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Some of my earliest memories of storytelling come from the pages of Dr. Seuss. As a child, Green Eggs and Ham was my favorite book—its playful rhythm, bold imagination, and joyful nonsense felt like magic. I didn’t realize it then, but those stories were doing something important: they were teaching me to love words, to laugh at the unexpected, and to see the world with curiosity and possibility.

As I grew older—and especially after having children of my own—I came to appreciate Dr. Seuss in an entirely new way. Beneath the whimsy and colorful characters is a deep understanding of childhood: the sweetness, the wonder, and the courage it takes to be different. His stories speak to children, but they also gently remind adults of the importance of kindness, empathy, and listening to one another.

What makes Seussical the Musical so special is how brilliantly its creators honor that spirit. Through music and lyrics that are playful, heartfelt, and deeply storytelling-driven, the world of Dr. Seuss is brought to life in a way that feels both familiar and fresh. Although these characters are animals and fantastical creatures, presenting them in human form allows us to see ourselves in them—their fears, their hopes, and their determination to be heard. That relatability is what makes this story resonate with audiences of all ages.

Stories like this are never brought to life by one person alone. Seussical exists on this stage because of an extraordinary community of people who believe in young artists and in the power of storytelling. I am deeply grateful to our artistic team for their creativity, dedication, and heart; to our board for their continued support and belief in our mission; and to the parent volunteers whose time, energy, and generosity make this work possible behind the scenes. This production is a true collaboration, and I am so thankful to share it with such a committed and caring group of people.

It is that same sense of community—of listening, supporting, and lifting one another—that sits at the heart of Seussical. My hope is that audiences leave the theater feeling lighter, inspired, and reminded that imagination, kindness, and a single voice—no matter how small—can truly make a difference.

With much love,

Jean
